Hugoton, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Both Hugoton Girls and Boys basketball teams started the annual Blue and Red Classic with wins to start off 2-0, but both have had different styles in leading to their early success.

Girls Highlights

For the second straight game Hugoton girls scored 76 points in beating Perryton, TX (3-5) 76-46.  The Lady Eagles struggled at home early failing to score through the first four minutes.  Once they did score, they scored often.

Freshman Dallie Hoskinson in only her second high school game poured in 26 points, 17 of them in the second half.  The way Hoskinson plays the game impresses her head coach Andy Gillen.

Boys Highlights

For the Hugoton boys their offense struggled a bit more.  It is the defense that allowing them to be successful early on.  After allowing just 28 points to Syracuse in an opening night 51-28 win, Hugoton gave up just 34 points Thursday night and the Eagles used a late run to beat Gruver, TX (4-4) 41-34.

Eagles Head Coach Craig Szymczak.  Hugoton girls play Hookers in Friday night’s Blue and Red Classic semifinals, while the boys meet Lakin.  Girls tipoff at 6:30, pre-game at 6:15 on Hits 106 and westernkansasnews.com.
