Hugoton boys, Scott City girls claim GWAC Cross Country titles
Colby, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Hugoton boys and Scott City girls claimed the top spots in the 2017 Great West Activities Conference team titles on Thursday at Meadow Lake Golf Course in Colby.
The boys race saw the favorite and the winner of all eight league meets Hugoton edge Scott City by a 35-41 point margin. Jack Thomas from Scott City remains unbeaten this year by winning the race with a time of 16:29.50.
On the girls side, it was Scott City winning their second GWAC title in the last three seasons. The Lady Beavers defeated Hugoton for the league crown by a 22-48 point margin. Scott City’s Makaela Stevens finished as the individual champion with a time of 21:23.90.
All the GWAC teams will be at regionals next Saturday. Holcomb, Hugoton and Ulysses will be at the Class 4A Regional at McPherson, while Colby, Goodland and Scott City will be at the 3A Regional at Ellsworth.
