Hood’s Buzzer Beater Lifts Bucklin Girls to a Third Place Finish
Emporia, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Morgan Hood hit the game-winning shot as time expired to give the Bucklin Lady Red Aces a 38-36 win over the St. John Lady Tigers in the third place game Saturday afternoon in Class 1A, Division I.
The game turned out to be a tightly contested game. St. John led 14-9 after one and Bucklin was able to tie it up at 20 at halftime, using an 11-6 second quarter run. Both teams were only able to score six points in the third period, setting up a great fourth quarter. For the game, the Lady Red Aces (19-6) shot 41% from the field and converted 12-of-22 free throws. The Lady Tigers were limited to 26% shooting in the game. Hood, who hit the game-winnings shot, led Buckin with 19 points and 12 rebounds. St. John (22-4) got 14 from Teresa Christie and 13 from Alexis Witt.
In the championship game, Hoxie was able to outlast Olpe 68-63 to win their second straight Class 1A, Division I title.
