Hometown kid leads Buster volleyball to victory (Audio)

Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-What a difference 180 days makes. Six months ago, Taylor Linenberger was sporting a cast after breaking her hand in a basketball game against Dodge City. The injury forced her to miss the last half of her senior season. That frustration served as a motivating force Wednesday night.

The freshman recorded 10 kills, Makayla Castro had eight and the Busters rolled to a four-set 25-15, 25-22, 25-16, 25-23 victory at the Perryman Athletic Complex.

“I was really nervous,” Linenberger said of playing in front of friends and family. “It did get to me the first two sets. But I came out the next two sets and played like I normally play. I have to learn not to get so nervous next time.”

The hometown kid was superb in the final two frames. Her attacks at the net were spectacular. And her teammates kept finding her.

“She (Linenberger) was really scared playing at home,” Head Coach Harvey Sanders said. “But she’s bouncy, and she doesn’t remember a lot, which is good; it allows her to make plays.”

Things weren’t all smooth sailing for the Busters. After taking the first set, Cloud bounced back with a strong performance in the second. But it was all Garden City (3-2, 1-0) from there.

Jade Timoteo added 10 kills for Garden City.
