Holcomb stampedes Lakin
The Holcomb Longhorns used a power running game and a big play passing attack to stampede the Lakin Broncs 50-18. Sophomore running back Dillon Williams rushed for 206 yards on 22 carries, scoring 3 touchdowns, while junior quarterback Trey Teeter threw for 179 yards and 3 TDs.
Holcomb opened the game with a 14 play 75 yard drive, with Williams gaining 53 of those yards and capping the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. Lakin answered with a quick 7-play, 70-yard drive; the big play, a 46-yard TD run by Alex Perez, and it was 8-6 Longhorns in the first quarter. Holcomb took control after that, scoring on their first 5 possessions of the game to open up a 37-6 halftime lead.
Teeter hit all three of his TD passes in the first half—two of those to Brandon Stegman of 22 and 53 yards. He also completed a 35 yarder to Christian Merz. Williams rushed for 2 first half TDs, the second from 16 yards out, and added a bruising 22 yard run in the third quarter. Blake Richmeier also scored a third quarter TD on a 5 yard run.
The Longhorns sacked Bronc QB Caleb Seeger 5 times and picked off 2 passes, but turned the ball over twice, on a Williams fumble in the first quarter and a muffed punt in the third quarter.
Holcomb is now 5-1 on the season and begins district play in class 4A-Division 2 at Larned this Friday night. The Indians are 4-2 and have won three straight. The other District 8 game will feature Pratt, 3-3, at Hugoton, 2-4.
