Holcomb splits with Ulysses

The Holcomb Longhorns split tonight against the Ulysses Tigers in their first league action. The Holcomb girls fall 43-34 and they move to 2-3 on the Season. And the Holcomb boys win 52-40 which makes them 4-1 on the season

The Lady Longhorns start slow in the first half and were never able to recover, they were down by 12 points at half 24-12. The Longhorns outscored Ulysses 22-19 in the second half but it was not enough, they fall to the tigers 43-34. Holcomb won the boards 35-34 and 22-9 on the offensive boards. They also forced 23 turnovers and only gave up the ball 13 times. But poor shooting would plague the Longhorns and be their downfall tonight, they shot just 14/75 for 19% and 3/23 behind the arc for 13 %. Ulysses shot 15/46 for 33% and 5/11 behind the arc for 45% they were led by Gina Ballesteros who had 22 points with 5 threes on 8 attempts. The Longhorns were led by Eboni Sapien with 9 points (all in the second half), 8 rebounds, and 2 steals. Darien Mader also contributed 8 points and 5 rebounds. But it was not enough and the Longhorns fall to Ulysses 43-34 and fall to 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in League play.

The Holcomb boys beat Ulysses 52-40. The Longhorns jumped out early 9-2 at 3:45 mark in the first but the Tigers would outscore the Longhorns 10-3 to tie it to end the first. The Longhorns would take a 5 point lead into half 24-19 behind 8 points and 7 rebounds in the second quarter by Kobe Dickson. Holcomb then stretched it out to a 14 point lead 36-22 with 3:30 to go in the third. The Tigers would not go away and would cut it to 7 points to end the third 38-31 behind 6 points by Devin Walker in the third. The closest the Tigers got was 5 points early in the fourth and then from there the Longhorns took over and won over Ulysses 52-40. The Tigers shot just 16/53 for 30% and 5/19 behind the arc for 26%, they were led by Bryan Garcia with 15 points and 3 rebounds. The Longhorns gave up 22 turnovers and only forced 13 turnovers. The Longhorns do win the boards 36-16 and 9-6 on the offensive glass. Holcomb shot 19/47 for 40% and 3/12 behind the arc for 25%, They also went 15/20 inside the paint for 75%. The Longhorns were led by Kobe Dickson with 22 points and 16 rebounds, Trey Gilbert also added 12 points and 3 rebounds. The Longhorns win over Ulysses 52-40 and move to 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in League play.
