Holcomb boys win Hillsboro Tourney

The Holcomb Longhorns take both games today against Hillsboro in the final round in the Trojan Classic. The Holcomb girls won 48-35 and they move to 6-6 on the Season and take third place in the Trojan classic. And the Holcomb boys won 55-42 to win the Trojan classic which makes them 11-1 on the season.

The Lady Longhorns started well in the first  quarter and had a 13-8 lead going into the second quarter. The Trojans outscored the Longhorns 8-4 in the second quarter, Holcomb took a one point lead into halftime 17-16. The Longhorns came out strong in the third quarter and stretched it out to a 13 point lead heading into the fourth quarter. But Hillsboro would not go away and cut the lead to 6 with 3 minutes to play 40-34 But the Longhorns would hit their free throws down the stretch and win 48-35. Holcomb went 16/21 from the charity stripe for the game and 11/14 in the fourth quarter. Courtney Wren went 6/6 from the line in the fourth quarter and had 15 points and 5 rebounds for the game. The Longhorns shot 34% and Hillsboro shot 35%, Holcomb forced 22 turnovers and only gave up the ball 8 times. The Trojans were led by Teegan Werth with 10 points and 4 rebounds. Eboni Sapien led the Longhorns today with 18 points and 7 rebounds and 2 steals, she went 7/7 at the foul line. The Longhorns win 48-35 and take third place in the Trojan classic which makes them 6-6 on the season.

The Holcomb boys started sluggish and had a 11-5 Lead after one quarter.  They would then stretch it out to a 26-7 lead at half. Hillsboro outscored the Longhorns 22-14 in the third to close the lead to 11 40-29. The Longhorns went 8/16 from the foul line in the fourth quarter and struggled to close out the game but would hold on and win 55-42. The Longhorns outrebounded  the Trojans  37-17 and 10-6 on the offensive glass.  Hillsboro was led by Elias Werth with 25 points and 6 rebounds, he had 22 points in the second half. The Longhorns shot 52% from the field,  and were led by Kobe Dickson who had a double double with 18 points and 23 rebounds-7 offensive boards. Steven Crain added 13 points and 4 rebounds off the bench. The Longhorns win 55-42 over Hillsboro and win the Trojan classic which makes them 11-1 on the season.

Next up for the Longhorns is the last road game of the seven game road trip to start the new year at Southwestern Heights next Friday 01-26-18. Pregame at 6:15 tip at 6:30 on 1030am KBUF
