Holcomb boys, Scott City girls, win Hugoton Cross Country Invite

Hugoton, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–On a cool Saturday morning to run, several schools made the trip to Forewinds Golf Course in Hugoton to compete in the Hugoton Invitational. It would be the Holcomb boys and Scott City girls taking the top spots in the team standings.

Starting with the boys, Holcomb dominated the race with 27 points, while Lakin was second with 82 points and Meade was third with 90 points. The Longhorns had four runners in the top 10, as Brody Deniston won the meet with a time of 15:22.50. Lakin’s Austin Ritsema was second in a time of 15:28. Meade’s Ryker Vieux was seventh, and Scott City’s Michael Hermosillo was ninth.

Scott City would take the girls team race, edging Stanton County by five points at 43 to 48 points, while Holcomb was third with 56 points. Cimarron’s Janae Fugitt was the top runner, winning the meet in a time of 19:56.15. South Gray’s Kylie Stapleton was second, while Jenera Ardery of Holcomb was third, Southwestern Heights’ Layla Kisner was fourth and Belle Trout from Scott City was in fifth.
