High Winds Present Little Problem As Dodge Beats Southeast
Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) In a game that feature a kickoff from Dodge City place kicker Carlos Fernandez that went backwards into a stiff 25-30MPH and traveled into the Demons own end zone for a safety, everything else was pretty academic for DCHS in beating Wichita Southeast 50-8.
Game Highlights
Dawson Williams had five rushing touchdowns on the night (1, 11, 23, 29 and 49 yards) and controlled the tempo of the game rushing for 175 of the team’s total 346 yards on 16 carries in Friday win. The game was rescheduled for Memorial Stadium in Dodge after Thursday’s game at Wichita Heights was postponed from lightning.
Williams also threw his first varsity touchdown pass on the first play of the fourth quarter hooking up with running back Tylor Garcia on a 40 yard score down the middle. For Garcia it was one of two touchdowns on the night, he also had a 3 yard td run late in the first quarter. Garcia eclipsed the century mark in rushing at 107 yards on 16 carries.
The Dodge defense continued their great play allowing 102 yards of total offense, only one rushing yards and if not for a late touchdown from Golden Buffaloes quarterback Tarik Adkins would have pitched a shutout defensively.
To illustrate how dominate the defense was for Dodge City the Demons only allowed seven first downs, two of which came in the first half and had 12 tackles for losses including five from junior defensive end Ansony Quezada.
The wind really aided Dodge City field position as seven of the Demon drive started on the plus end of the fifty yard line and all seven scoring drives took 2:30 minutes or less.
The Demons are off to a 2-0 start for the third time in the last four years. It does not get any easier for Dodge. Next up is a home game Friday night with 2-0 Wichita Heights a team that beat the Demons 53-48 last year. Pre-game coverage on Z98 begins at 6:30 with the kickoff at 7.
