Henry Martens
Henry Martens, 47, died April 9, 2016 at his home in Copeland after a three year battle with cancer. He was born on May 5, 1968 in Mexico, the son of Cornelius and Tina (Thiessen) Martens.
On July 2, 1989, he married Margaret Loewen in Mexico. She survives. They moved to Garden City in 1992. They later moved to Sublette and then in 2001 to Copeland where they made their home. Henry owed Hanks Machinery. He bought and sold farm equipment. In the words of his family, “he could fix anything”. Henry enjoyed many things in life including traveling, visiting with people, and his animals, but the thing he loved the most was his family. His children were very important to him and he would do anything he could for them. Henry was a hardworking man even throughout his illness.
He was a member of the Gospel Mennonite Church of Sublette.
Henry is survived by his wife of 26 years, Margaret Martens of Copeland; one daughter, Erika Martens of Lubbock, Texas; three sons, Alex Martens and wife Misty of Lubbock, Texas, Ronald Martens and fiance, Meka Teichroeb, and Michael Martens all of Copeland; seven brothers, Pete, Abe, Corney, David, Willy, and Martin all of Mexico and Johnny of Canada; and two step-sisters, Lisa Klassen of Canada and Maria Unger of Mexico. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be held at Gospel Mennonite Church in Sublette on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 10:00 AM with Pastors George Penner and Pete Dyck presiding. Burial will follow at Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 from noon to 8:00 P.M..
