Henry Lee “Hank” Patton

Henry Lee “Hank” Patton, 77 died Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas. He was born March 12, 1939 in Scott City, Kansas the son of Oatis & Thelma (Beaver) Patton.
Hank grew up in Scott City where he attended school. He graduated from Scott City High School in 1957. Hank served in the United States Marine Corp from May of 1957 to May of 1960 where he was stationed in San Diego. After the Service he returned to Scott City. While living in Scott City, he worked as a farmer and rancher in the Scott City and Shallow Water area. He moved to Deerfield, Kansas in 1969, later moving to Lakin in 1975. He has lived in Lakin since. Hank worked as an all around cowboy at the Deerfield Co-op Feedlot. He later started his own hanyman servive, “Hank’s Handyman.” He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church while living in Deerfield. He was also a member of the NRA, the Masonic Lodge, the Shriner’s, the Kearny County Saddle Club, and he served on the Beymer Park Board. Hank enjoyed his handyman work, tinkering, fixing radios and televisions, horses, roping, and collecting knives, pens, canes, and lighters.
On June 8, 1960, he married Carol I. Brown in Scott City, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters Ronda & husband Jim Brewer of Lakin, Kansas and Andi & husband Todd Gorman of Meade, Kansas; six grandchildren Nacona Holmes, Ashley Randolph, Derek Lyle, Zack Patton, Polly Gorman, & Mitchell Gorman; and three great-grandchildren Hanna Randolph, Chloe Kirschenmann, and Ezra Holmes. Hank is preceded in death by his parents; a son Gary D. Patton; and a sister Anna Whiteman.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 23, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lakin, Kansas with Rev. Rita Stockton officiating. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the United States Marine Corp Honor Guard and the American Legion District #8 Honor Guard. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin. The family request memorials given to the Kearny County Saddle Club or to the Shriner’s Hospital both in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
