GARDEN CITY, Kan (WesternKansasNews.Com) – There will be a Healing Poverty in Garden City program for people interested in a results-based approach to solving local poverty. The program will be held on Thursday, April 14th at 7:00 p.m. at Horace Good Middle School Courtyard, 1412 N. Main Street.

The organization has been invited to share about their work to see if this is a good fit for Garden City. It will be the community who claims it and ultimately who will establish the program.

Every community in Kansas has large numbers of families experiencing poverty. What if there was a way to  help local families climb out of poverty and build them middle-class future stories? This is the mission of Core Communities. They want to engage hard working families that are constantly caught in the toxic stress of survival and help them build the lives they are supposed to be having.

Core Communities is in 13 Kansas communities and are currently engaged with just under 300 Kansas families. In the past seven years, they have helped almost 100 families climb out of financial poverty defined as earning at or above 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. For a single mother with three children, this would translate to earning $55,500.00 annually. Their approach is a two to five year process and requires a community collaboration of churches, nonprofits, and systems. Their approach is holistic, trauma-informed and relationship driven.
