Hays starts fast, runs away from Dodge
HAYS–Malik Bah rushed for three first-half touchdowns and caught another Friday, helping Hays score on all but one of its possessions before the break, and the Indians stomped Dodge City 41-6 at Lewis Field Stadium.
Bah ripped off a 74-yard touchdown run on the third play of the game, and following a prompt three-and-out from the Red Demon offense, Hays drove again and led 13-0 less than five minutes in.
Dodge City fumbled twice inside its own 35-yard line in the first half, and the Indians converted both fumbles into touchdowns. Hays quarterback Kyreese Groen, for the second straight week, led his team to a blowout win while having single-digit completions through the air.
The second half lent itself to mainly backups for both sides, as Hays carried a 41-0 lead into the break. It was by far the largest deficit of the season for the Red Demons, and it’s the only game in which they trailed wire-to-wire.
Dodge City falls to 3-3 with the loss and 1-2 in WAC play.
The Red Demons return to action next Saturday when they travel to Wichita to battle Garden City in the 85th annual Hatchet Game at Riverfront Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
