Guillory’s kick lifts Conqs to Win

DODGE CITY — Devonta Guillory has been clutch all season for the Dodge City Community College Conquistadors and Saturday was no different. The sophomore kicker hit a 30-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Conqs to a 34-33 come-from-behind win over Coffeyville on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

The Conqs took a 7-0 lead after the first quarter and then led 10-7 at halftime. Coffeyville then found the end zone to take a 14-10 lead going into the final 15 minutes. The Red Ravens scored another touchdown o lead 21-10 with only a few minutes remaining. The Conqs scored on a touchdown pass from Drew Harris to Kyle Jones in the corner of the end zone with 1:41 to go. Harris’ pass attempt for the 2-point conversion to tie the game was overthrown and Coffeyville held onto the 21-19 lead.

Guillory had one job on the ensuing kickoff and that was to make sure his guys had a chance at recovering the kickoff to give the offense another chance. Guillory’s kick was perfect, as Eugene Minter recovered the onside kick and gave the Conqs the football with just over 1:40 to go. Dodge City’s offense took the ball down to the 13-yard line and out trotted Guillory for the game-winning field goal.

Dodge City is now 3-4 on the season and 1-3 in KJCCC play. The Conqs will travel to Fort Dodge, IA to take on Iowa Central Community College on Saturday at Dodger Stadium.
