Grass fire contained in Grant County

Grant County, Kan.–Three separate fires that were potentially caused by lightning spread across rural Grant County, just after 4:30 Thursday afternoon.

According to Grant County Rural Fire, crews responded to the fires along East Hampton Road between South Road L and South Road M.

A report from the Kansas Forest Service said that District Fire Management Officer, Aaron Williams and the Kansas Forest Service contracted Single Engine Air Tankers assisted in fighting the fires

Departments from Haskell, Stanton, Stevens, and Kearny counties, along with the Garden City Fire Department assisted with containing the fires.

As the wind diminished, forward progression of the fire was stopped around 9 pm

Acreages have not been determined but they are expected to be significant. Fire resources remained engaged on fires near homes patrolling for embers and spot fires overnight.  No injuries were reported
