Governor Defends Record
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Governor Sam Brownback was in Garden City Saturday speaking at the “Awakening Freedom” seminar. Afterwards in a one-on-one interview with News Director Tim Boulware the governor explained that his policies have helped bring record revenues and record employment to the state. A far cry from when he took office.
The unemployment rate stands at 4.9 percent. The governor is also taking some heat for not pouring enough money into education. Brownback’s defense is that when he took office, he inherited an awful mess from his predecessor Mark Parkinson.
Brownback agreed with the State Supreme Court’s decision on equalization of school districts. Since he signed the 129 million dollar education spending bill, Brownback says Kansas is now putting in a record amount of money per student.
