George T. Olson
George T. Olson, age 84, of Ulysses, Kansas died Monday, June 6, 2016 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born December 21, 1931 in Ada, Oklahoma, the son of Gifford Olson and Virginia (Cady) Olson Black.
George grew up in Fort Worth, Texas and attended Riverside Elementary School and graduated from Amon Carter Riverside High School. He served in the United States Army from 1949 – 1953. George married Marilyn Jane Selness on November 9, 1951 in Bethesda, Maryland. He and Marilyn moved to Ulysses in 1968 from Muleshoe, Texas. He went to work for Ulysses Irrigation Pipe in 1984, working in the plastic pipe and fittings department building machines to make plastic pipe fittings. He also built and operated an aluminum pipe machine. He also painted houses in the Ulysses area for several years. George loved his family, his church, and fishing. He was a member of the Rose Lane Church of God and affiliated with the Oasis Church.
He is survived by three daughters, Cindy Beckman and husband Nick of Amarillo, Texas, Pamela Arnold and husband Mike of Ulysses, Kansas, Dianne Nikkel and husband Johnny of Prescott Valley, Arizona; one son, Thomas Olson of Wichita, Kansas; one step-brother, Bill Cady and wife Cathey of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; sister, Ann Hultman of Roswell, New Mexico; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
George is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn; and step-brother, Robert Black.
Graveside service will be Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at 10:00 AM at Ulysses Cemetery with Bob LeVene officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post #79. Friends may call on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
