George McKinney

George McKinney, 91, died February 20, 2017 at Trinity Manor Nursing Home, Dodge City. He was born on January 20, 1926 at Dodge City, the son of William and Pearl (Stokey) McKinney.

George was born and raised in Dodge City and was a 1944 graduate of Dodge City High School. He served the in US Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific Theater. On June 26, 1949 he married Colleen Tolson in Dodge City. George was employed at Dillons for over 30 years and later worked at Pay Day IGA. He was active with Boy Scout Troop 167 where he received the Order of the Arrow.

George was an active gardener and loved working with his flowers and yard where he received the Garden of the Month award on several occasions. 

He was a member of the Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W. and Moose Lodge both of Dodge City.

George is survived by his son, Bruce McKinney of Dodge City; two, sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Colleen; and son, Bobby.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday February 24, 2017 at 10:30 AM with Jeff Hiers and Vernon Bogart presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with Military Rites by Howard Gotschall Post #1714 and Navy Military Honors. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday February 23, 2017 from Noon to 8:00PM. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Arrowhead West in care of the funeral home.
