George Harvey Harrison
George Harvey Harrison, 91, died January 27, 2015 at Halsey Hall in Fort Dodge. He was born on a farm south of Copeland on September 25, 1923 to Harvey A. and Stella (Malone) Harrison.
A lifetime resident of Copeland, he graduated from Copeland High School. He entered the United States Navy during World War II. He served his country in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. After his discharge, he came back to Gray County where he farmed and worked for area farmers. George also worked for the Gray County Road Department for many years. He married Lottie Belle Stockdale in Dodge City on July 31, 1962. She preceded him in death on August 30, 1992. Going to auctions, eating at the Copeland Cafe, and attending American Legion functions were his life in later years.
He was a member of the Copeland Christian Church and the Copeland American Legion.
George is survived by two sisters, Mabel Marie Ross of Dodge City and Jean Yount of Sublette; one brother, James Harrison of Garden City; one step daughter, Shirley Stockdale; and three step granddaughters, Rhonda Thomas, Sheryl Nau, and Roquell Smith. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, sister, stepson, and stepdaughter.
Funeral service will be held at Copeland Christian Church on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Bruce Titus presiding. Burial will follow at Copeland Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Thursday, January 29, 2015 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Copeland Christian Church or Copeland American Legion in care of the funeral home.
