GC’s Holt and DC’s Darville to wrestle for State Championships on Saturday, full results for GC and DC day one
Wichita, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Garden City and Dodge City High School began the 6A State Tournament on Friday at Hartman Arena in Wichita. The Buffaloes had 11 wrestlers compete on Friday, while the Red Demons had 10. For Garden City 10 of their wrestlers advanced to Saturday and 9 advanced for Dodge City.
Garden City finished the day in 8th place in the team standings with 54.5 points and are just one point behind Olathe South for 6th.
For the second year in a row sophomore Jacob Holt will wrestle for a State Championship. Holt won the 113 weight class last year and will wrestle for the 126 championship this year after winning three matches on Friday. In the first round Hold won by fall over Daniel Boose of SM West, in the quarterfinals he pinned PJ Williams of Olathe NW and in the semifinals he topped Izaiah Delvalle of Hutchinson with a 3-2 decision.
Silas Pineda also wrestled in the semifinals at 113 pounds, but after a good start he was pinned by Tate Sauder of Manhattan. Pineda will still have a chance to wrestle for third place on Saturday, as will every Garden City wrestler still competing in the consolation bracket.

Dodge City
The Red Demons finished day one in 11th place in the team standings with 49 points. Evan Darville will wrestle for the State Championship at 285 pounds on Saturday. Darville had three wins that included pinning the number one ranked wrestler in the state and a 5-3 win in the semifinals.
Couy Weil wrestled in the semifinals for a chance to move to the State Championship at 113 pounds, but fell to 3-time defending State Champ Brian Gates of Hutchinson by pinfall. Weil will still have a chance at third place on Saturday, as will every Dodge City wrestler still competing in the consolation bracket.
