GCHS To Present Musical “Miss You Like Hell: School Edition”

Garden City High School drama department will present “Miss You Like Hell: School Edition”, September 13th and 14th at 7:00 p.m. There will be a matinee on September 15th at 2:30 p.m. The performances will be held in the auditorium on the Garden City High School campus, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd. This musical may not be appropriate for young children, parental guidance needed. GCHS is proud to be working with Theatrical Rights Worldwide to create a new school edition of this 2018 award winning show.
There is limited seating for this performance, and some seating will be onstage. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students at the door. Tickets may be purchased at www.gchsdrama.booktix.com. The box office opens an hour prior to production for purchase of tickets at the door. Cash, checks, and credit/debit cards are accepted.
This musical will be adjudicated for the Kansas State Thespian Festival. The school has had a number of its musicals judged and has won a number of awards and recognitions for its productions.
“Miss You Like Hell” is the story of an estranged mother and daughter, Beatriz and Olivia. Beatriz, the mother, is an undocumented immigrant on the verge of deportation, when she shows up to take 16 year old Olivia on a road trip across the United States. On their trip they meet many Americans of different backgrounds but shared dreams. Quiara Alegria Hudes is a Pulitzer Prize winning playwright of Water by the Spoonful and she also wrote the book for the musical In the Heights. Erin McKeown is best known as a singer-songwriter. McKeown and Hudes teamed up to write a powerful new show with vast heart and fierce humor that ran at the Public Theatre in New York in 2018.
