GCHS swimming second at Emporia

Emporia, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-Garden City swimming continues to turn heads. 

On Thursday, the Lady Buffs placed second at Emporia with 418 points-finishing 89 behind the host team. But the better news: Garden City qualified two teams for state-the 200-yard medley squad of Ashley Longoria, Lindsay Bradstreet, Claire Schmidt and Samantha Norton combined for a 2:08:03 time and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Abigail Ginest-Dougherty, Schmidt, Erika Schafer and Norton came in at 4:12:45. 

“It was a really good day for us,” Head Coach Casey Wise said. “A lot of work went into this week to try and get us ready to go.”

Schmidt had a really good day-placing third in the 200-yard individual medley and third in the 500-yard freestyle. 

“I was able to cut a lot of time in my 500 free,” Schmidt said. “I got it closer to where I want it for this point in the season.”

Samantha Norton won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:32:24-a good four seconds in front of second place Jordan Metz from Emporia. 

Lindsay Bradstreet clocked a a 1:19:52-good for third in the 100-yard breast stroke. Lauren Richmeier was sixth with a time of 1:22:34.
