GCHS soccer runner up in North Cup
Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-If Garden City hopes to make a trip the state tournament later this month, there’s one thing that has to change:
“We have to work on being more consistent,” Coach Josue Negron said following Saturday’s match Wichita Heights. “We show signs in spurts. We have to learn to finish.”
The Buffaloes 3-1 loss to the Falcons in the championship game of the North Cup exemplified that very point.
Garden City trailed by only one at the half but quickly dug themselves a 2-0 hole on Colleen Howland’s goal in the 42nd minute. 11 minutes later it was Tori Bone giving Wichita Heights a 3-0 lead.
The Buffaloes answered the bell two minutes later when Cecilia Alvarez found a crease and delivered Garden City’s first tally. But they wouldn’t score again.
