GCHS soccer ousts Wichita West in regional opener

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-After mother nature tormented the Buffaloes last week in a conference loss, the skies finally cleared a week later just in time for one of their best defensive performances of the season. 

Gilberto Tovar and Alex Morales found the back of the net while the Buffalo defense stymied Wichita West, holding them to just three shots on goal in a 2-0 win Tuesday in the 6A regional semifinals at Buffalo Stadium. 

“We didn’t want to end our season,” said Tovar, whose goal in the 23rd minute proved to be the game winner. “We came out and got the w.”

Garden City improves to 11-6 overall and moves onto play 14-2-1 Topeka Washburn Rural on Thursday in Topeka.
