GCHS Soccer on the board; blanks Hays

Hays, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-Garden City missed a lot of scoring chances in their season opener Tuesday vs. Hays. 

But they still made the Indians pay. 

Kevin Benitez scored twice, and Garden City stayed on the attack in a 4-0 victory on Tuesday. 

“We have to learn that when we get chances, we need to take advantage of them,” Assistant Coach Josue Negron said. 

Emanuelle Carrillo got the Buffaloes on the board in the seventh minute before Benitez scored 21 minutes later. 

Garden City (1-0) added two more goals in the second half: One by Brian Carrera in the 74th minute; the other by Benitez in the 79th. 

Garden City out shot Hays 26-7. Goalie Kender Acevedo had five saves. 

Next up: Goddard Tournament on Tuesday
