GCHS Seniors Receive Honors and Awards during event

Garden City High School seniors were recognized for their academic achievements and other important honors during the Senior Awards Night held on Wednesday, May 2nd.  The event was held in the Commons Area at the high school.

The following students are Kansas Board of Regents Curriculum Completers.  They include: Andrew Aguirre, Itzel Arreola, Allyson Becker, Giselle Benitez, Adela Benitez-Hernandez, Josephine Calzonetti, Natalie Camacho, Brian Carrera, Juliana Casas, Abigail Castanon-Arroyo, Alexis Castillo, Daniel Chacon, Yoana Chairez, Kaitlyn Chappel, Reigan Crawford, Brandie Cruz, Amanda Currie, Meghan Espinosa, Edith Flores, Jailene Garcia, Marleny Guardado-Hernandez, Sandra Guzman, Kimberly Hermosillo, Gage Hodges, Jasmin Jimenez-Gonzalez, Kaylee Keller, Jack Koehn, Georgia Kohlhorst, Luz Labra, Duy Nguyen, McKensi Peitz, Kaj Perez, Priscila Picazo, Amanda Powers, Megan Powers, Evelyn Ramirez, Luis Rodriguez Zarate, Anna Roth, Anaelisa Seijas, Sara Shill, Julio Solis-Hernandez, Megan Strecker, Adisyn Swan, Raul Tornero, Kameron Wildeman, and Andrew Yi.

Designated Kansas State Scholars are Kaitlyn Chappel and Amanda Currie.  These students have completed the scholars’ curriculum and are in the upper 30% of qualified curriculum completers. The average Grade Point Average of the scholars is 3.9 and average ACT score is 31.

Seniors that have achieved a 4.0 Grade Point Average include: Kade Brennaman, Kaitlyn Chappel, Pauline La, Amanda Powers, Megan Powers, and Grace Schmidt.

Amanda Currie is Kansas ACT Scholar for a score of 32 or above.

Megan Powers received the Kansas Governor Award for Community Service.

David Arteaga and Beth Guymon received the KSHSAA Citizenship Awards.

Garret Doll and Josie Calzonetti received the GCHS Outstanding Senior Athlete Award.

The Marines presented awards to Keenan Nelson, Semper Fidelis Award; Kade Brennaman and Kaitlyn Chappel, Scholastic Excellence Award; and Jasper Partin and Reigan Crawford, Distinguished Athlete Award.

The school presented achievement awards to the seniors in the various academies.  In Public Service:  Outstanding Students, J Lance Allred, Julietta Corpus Ochoa, and Laura Ibarra Arreguin; Citizenship, Brittney Ellerman and Hunter Manley; Academic or Leadership, Devin Tula and Marc-Anthony Martinez; Pathway Achievement Award (Teaching/Training), Raylyn Swank; Pathway Achievement Award (Early Childhood), Laura Malagon Palacios; Pathway Achievement Award (Law) Daniella Torres; and Pathway Achievement Award (Finance), Lance Allred.

Health included: Health Academy – Most Outstanding: Grace Schmidt, Kylee Hipp, and Amanda Powers; Health Academy – Citizenship, Beth Guymon and Reigan Crawford; Health Academy-Most Improved Academic or Leadership,  Jorge Ochoa; Health Academy – Health Pathways completer, Kade Brennaman and Megan Powers; and Health Academy – STEM (Math, Science), Keenan Nelson and Jack Koehn.

Trades included: Outstanding Ag Student, Ruben Castro; Outstanding Drafting Student, Ann Douglass; Outstanding Engineering Student, Trey Caffee; Outstanding Welding Student, James Ortiz; Most Improved Academic or Leadership, Thomas Turpin; Outstanding Trade Academy Student, Raegan Linenberger, Brandon Martinez, Abby Murrell, and Kevin Perez; and Citizenship, Gonzalo Alcantar.

Arts & Communications included: Outstanding Students, Lorenz Rincones and Kimberly Loya-Enriquez; Citizenship, Kevin Mendoza and Alissa Sauseda; Academic or Leadership, Gage Hodges and Amanda Currie; Top Performing Art, Brandon Smith and Abbigayle Ramirez; and Top Visual Art, Javier Cervantes and Kaci Bunch.
