GCHS golf second at Hays

Hays, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-There was plenty of inexperience for the Garden City high school girls golf team Monday at Smokey Hill Country Club. Only three girls had any significant varsity time. 

But who said inexperience was a detriment? 

Walker Frey’s team not only competed, but they finished in second place; six shots in front of hometown Hays and 18 strokes back of team champ TMP Marian. 

Senior Hannah Leiker led the charge, shooting a team-best 48, which was good for sixth individually. 

Seniors Kendra Martin and Maddie Gerber fired 54s. Freshman Elena Lemke totaled a 57.
