GCHS golf regional champs
Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-When it comes down to it, Garden City High School golf Coach Walker Frey knows all too well how important a short game is.
On Monday Taylor Larsen’s was on full display.
Larsen was a putting machine, shooting a 38 on the front nine and a 35 on the back, falling one stroke shy of a regional title-finishing second behind Kale Reynolds from Maize.
But the Buffaloes one upped the Eagles for dibs atop the leaderboard, claiming the 6A regional title with a combined score of 311. Maize was second with a 313.
Daniel Gaspar’s 79 was good for sixth place; tied with teammate Logan Durst. Tristan Corrales shot an 80; Connor Schultz fired an 83 and Brendan Hopkins chipped in with a 91.
Hutchinson was the final team to qualify for the state tournament totaling a 319.
Dodge City placed fourth in the six-team region but qualified three individuals for state: Dylan Ratts, Canyon Owens and Matthew Vogel.
