Hays, KS-After a stellar 2016 campaign saw the Buffaloes make another run at the state tournament, expectations were high entering the 2017 season.

And Jake Waller’s team did not disappoint in their first tournament of the season.

The Buffaloes took first at the Bob Blazer invitational on Tuesday with a team score of 307, beating the host school by 11 strokes.

“The conditions were not ideal,” sophomore Sion Audrain said. “But we still played really well.”

Audrain was superb, shooting a field-best 73 to take home the individual title. Senior Logan Durst was right behind him with a 74, and Taylor Larsen, who’s already signed with the University of Kansas City-Misourri, fired off a 78 for a fifth-place finish.

Dodge City placed third with Matthew Vogel tying for 10th with an 80.

The Buffaloes return to action Saturday morning at 9 for their home invite at Buffalo Dunes.
