About the Show:
An Enemy of the People was written by Henrik Ibsen in 1882 in Norway. Ibsen was one of the first playwrights write using today’s most popular form of drama, realism. This production will be a modern adaptation by Robyn and Alice Hilt. This play centers around Miranda Stockman, a doctor, who discovers that a local factory, owned by her husband’s adoptive mother/father, is polluting the local water supply that affects the town’s major source of income, a local Spa. People travel from all over the bathe in the springs for medical purposes. The Spa brings tourists who shop and dine in town and stay at local hotels. Miranda’s brother, Peter, is the local mayor and the chairman of the board of directors for The Spa. He works to censor Miranda from publishing her findings in a local paper, operated at the college in town. Miranda takes her fight for justice to the townspeople when the paper refuses to publish her findings after Peter convinces them of the harsh economic impact her report will have upon the town. Miranda continues to stand up for the truth even as the community turns against her and her family.
