GCCC volleyball player Castro inks with Chowan (Audio)
Garden City, KS-Broncbusters outside hitter Makayla Castro had her fair share of ups and downs during her two-year stint in Garden City.
But it all ended on a high note Tuesday.
Castro signed with Division II Chowan University in North Carolina.
“It really came down to anyone that would give me a chance to play at the next level,” Castro said.
Castro finished her second season in Broncbuster gold with 33 kills and 517 digs.
But her season, as like most of her teammates, got off to a rocky start.
Just a week before the start of the new campaign, Harvey Sanders resigned as coach. Jacquelynne Matula was quickly hired to replace him.
“Jackie actually let the team interview her before the season started,” Castro said. “That made us feel very comfortable in the transition.”
Castro came to Garden City from Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
