GARDEN CITY, Kan. — Garden City Community College was voted into existence by a countywide vote on April 1, 1919.  The college will celebrate and commemorate the 100th Anniversary of that vote on Monday, April 1, 2019, with “Birthday” cake and a short ceremony in the GCCC Quad at 2:00 PM.  The April 1 ceremony is the launch of GCCC’s 100th Anniversary Celebration and the first of several additional events planned to commemorate 100 years of service to the community.  Planned activities include, but are not limited to: an Athletic Hall of Fame Induction, a Centennial Gala, a Community Parade, and a fun family event on the campus quad.  The majority of the events and celebrations will take place on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28, centering on the Homecoming Football game, which will take place at 3:00 PM on September 28.

At the 90th Anniversary celebration of GCCC in September of 2009, the campus accepted scholarship applications from then 3rd grade students and others who would be eligible to attend GCCC in the Fall of 2019, ten years later.   Garden City Community College will draw the names of up to 20 scholarship winners from the 90th Anniversary Celebration time capsule and invite any recipients to the ceremony for awarding on April 1.

Garden City Community College exists to produce positive contributors to the economic and social well-being of society.
