GCCC Takes Both Ends of Twinbill With Pratt

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City Baseball team limped into Sunday’s doubleheader with Pratt having lost five of last six games.  The Broncbusters apparently have found their footing again.  GCCC swept a doubleheader beating Pratt 14-7 and 13-8 evening their conference record to 3-3, 10-7 overall.

During the first game, Pratt jumped out to an early 6-1 lead through 2 ½ innings on the strength of 1st baseman Scott Alvarez who knocked in three including a two run double in the third.  For Garden City they began their comeback in the third with two bases loaded walk and RBI singles from Cale Dineen and Nolan Barrientos.  The Broncbusters then made three their magic number with three straight three run innings in the fourth, fifth and sixth.  Rocky DeSantis added a two run double in the fifth off Pratt reliever Creighton Hoover and RBI single in the seventh off Jacob Spruill.  DeSantis had six hits in nine at-bats during the doubleheader.  In the first game, DeSantis had four singles and one double finishing a perfect 5-for-5 with 4RBIs.

During game two, Garden City survived the longball.  Bennie Dean connected on two deep drives off Broncbuster starter Jake Eikleberry.  Dean hit a solo blast in the third inning and three run homer in the fourth over the leftfield scoreboard to give Pratt a 7-5 lead.  The Broncbuster had their answer in the sixth when shortstop Tyler Alitz hit his first homer of the year, a two run blast to left in tying the game at 8-8 off Pratt reliever Clayton Blanks.  Later in the inning Kaleb Zimmer drove in the winning run off Creighton Hoover with a single bringing in Dineen. 

Despite allowing eight runs over six innings, Eikleberry won his 1st game of the season to improve to 1-2.  Garden City catcher Jaxon Mohr added some insurance with a four run eighth by connecting on a three run double.
