[Garden City, KS] July 8, 2020  Garden City Community College has partnered with Ready Education, an international technology company, to provide students instant access to campus and academic services directly through their smartphones.

Through the new app, students will have quick and easy access to personal course schedules, virtual event calendars, mental health support, community building tools, and other student and campus services.

GCCC leadership is hopeful that the app, which will be made available to all students this August, will build new virtual communities, streamline student communications, and create new engagement experiences, according to Vice President for Instructional Services Marc Malone.

“We’re really excited to revolutionize communication with students through the Ready Ed solution,” Malone said. “We’ll have relevant information in the palm of each student’s hand. The ability to use group communication, the social wall, and push notifications will change how students interact with the college.”

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and as spring and summer coursework moved to online delivery systems, GCCC was challenged with accessing at-risk students quickly and efficiently through traditional telecommunications methods, such as telephone and email.

The new campus app will enhance communication strategies across campus to include nudges and advisor interventions, allowing faculty, advisors, staff, and other key campus personnel to communicate with students directly – and vice versa.

Students enrolled at GCCC this Fall 2020 will be the first student body to experience the campus application. It will be made available for download in both the Google and Apple app stores.

GCCC plans to utilize a mix of alternative classroom formats this fall including on-ground instruction, online, hybrid, and live Zoom. The variety of classroom delivery styles will allow GCCC to ensure proper social distancing can occur. Face masks will also be required inside classrooms and all campus buildings.
