GCCC Broncbuster Athletic Association Seeks Nominations for 2020 Hall of Fame
GCCC
[Garden City, KS] Oct. 30, 2019 – The Garden City Community College Broncbuster Athletic Association (BAA) is proud to announce an open nominations window for the Broncbuster Hall of Fame Induction of 2020. Nominations can be made electronically at gobroncbusters.com through January 31. Selection of the 2020 inductees will be made by the Hall of Fame committee upon review of the nominations, and an induction ceremony is scheduled to take place on April 24, 2020, with an associated BAA Golf Tournament scheduled for April 25.
“I think it is crucial to ensure that we recognize the important figures of the past from Broncbuster Athletics–those who have had significant achievements on or off the field,” said Athletic Director Greg McVey. “It is important to honor the history of what we do in Buster Athletics, both providing a connection to the past and honoring the folks who deserve to be honored—those who gave their blood sweat and tears for the community college. Starting the committee again in 2020 also provides a sense of belonging for the community athletic supporters and helps re-create the tradition that has been lost a little bit over time. We look forward to bringing back the tradition and memory of those folks that built the athletic department as it exists.”
The last Broncbuster Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony took place in 2013 to honor Shelley Johnson-Meier (Rodeo, 90-92), Frank Murphy (Football, 96-97), Jason Roach (Wrestling, 88-90), and Todd Tichenor (Baseball, 96-98).
The Broncbuster Hall of Fame serves the purpose of recognizing those individuals and teams who, through leadership and character, have made exceptional contributions to the honor and prestige of Garden City Community College in the field of athletics and who have continued to demonstrate the values imparted through intercollegiate athletics. Nominations will be accepted from Garden City Community College graduates, former players, coaches, college personnel, contributors/supporters, and sports professionals and must be made to the Director of Athletics or any member of the Hall of fame, in writing on the official nomination form, which can be found under “Broncbuster Athletic Association” at gobroncbusters.com.
