GCCC baseball sweeps Pratt with walk-offs

Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City Community College baseball team took a double header from Pratt Community College, sweeping the season series. The Broncbusters won both games on walk-off singles, 6-5 and 11-10.

Game One

GCCC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a Ty Barclay RBI single. Pratt responded in the fourth with two runs  on an RBI triple by Trace Maddux and an RBI sac-fly from Sean Johnson. The Broncbusters would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI triple by Corbin Truslow. In the top of the sixth Trace Maddux put the Beavers back in front with an RBI single making it 3-2. In the bottom half GCCC would take the lead back with an RBI single and an RBI double to make it 4-3. Pratt would retake the lead in the seventh with a 2 RBI single from Elerie Rivera to make it 5-4. In the bottom of the seventh the Broncbusters would tie the game when Darien Burns reached on an error by second baseman Carl Cooper, Ty Lightley then followed with a walk-off RBI single.

Ryder Yakel(1-2) got the win for GCCC(24-21, 10-14) pitching the last 1.2 innings giving up one run and two hits. Eric Heiman got the start going 5.1 innings giving up three runs on five hits. Corbin Truslow led the way at the plate going 3-3 with a triple, double, single and RBI.

Game Two

The Broncbusters jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings. Pratt would respond in the fifth after an error by first baseman Robbie Young allowed a run and extended the inning, Gage Axline, Trace Maddux and Sean Johnson hit three straight RBI doubles to tie the game at 4. Then in the sixth inning the Beavers would score five more runs with a 2 RBI single from Elerie Rivera, RBI double by Axline, RBI single by Maddux and RBI triple by Johnson to make it 9-4. In the bottom half GCCC would tie the game with five runs on a 2 RBI double by Ty Lightley, sac-fly RBI by Young, and 2 RBI double by Truslow. Pratt would retake the lead in the eighth inning on an RBI single by Johnson making it 10-9. In the bottom of the ninth the Broncbusters would load the bases with no outs, Griffin Brunson would tie the game with an RBI sac-fly, then two batter later Young came through with a walk-off RBI single for an 11-10 win.

Young led the way for GCCC at the plate going 2-3 with 3 RBI, Truslow also went 2-3 with 3 RBI.

GCCC is back in action Thursday when they host Seward Community College at 12 p.m.
