GCCC baseball splits at Cloud, wins series

Concordia, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City Community College baseball team split two games at Cloud County on Saturday, losing the first by run rule 14-2 and winning the second 9-6. The Broncbusters won three of four in their first KJCCC series of the season after winning the first two games Thursday.

Game One

With the wind whipping out at Lee Doyen Stadium Cloud County had a homerun party in the first game. The Thunderbirds(6-8, 1-3) hit four homeruns in a 14-2 win in 5 innings. Luis Landaeta led the way at the plate going 3-3 with 2 homeruns, a single and 6 RBI.

Erik Sabrowski had a big game at the plate and on the mound, going 1-1 with a homerun, BB, HBP and 3 RBI. On the mound Sabrowski, the Louisiana-Monroe signee, was dominant with 10 strikeouts in 5 innings and giving up four runs on two hits. Ryan Krolikowski also hit a solo homerun for the T-Birds. For GCCC Tyrus Barclay went 1-2 with a solo homerun, his first of the season.

Game Two

GCCC(15-7, 3-1) fell behind in the first inning 4-2 before scoring two runs in the 3rd and 4th inning to move ahead 6-4. Cloud would score a run in the bottom of the 5th cutting the deficit to 6-5. The Broncbusters would stretch the lead to 7-5 going into the bottom of the 8th, The T-Birds would score a run following two errors and then load the bases, Nick Iossi would strikeout Tauren Langley to end the threat. GCCC would add two insurance runs in the top of 9th to secure the win.

Griffin Brunson helped lead the way for the Broncbusters at the plate going 1-3 with a single, 3 walks, 2 RBI and 2 runs. Robbie Young went 2-5 with a homerun and 2 RBI. Clint Allen was 2-5 with a solo homerun, single and 3 runs. For Cloud Enrique Gonzalez was 2-4 with a homerun and 2 RBI.

Nick Iossi got the win for GCCC on the mound coming in for relief. Iossi pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up 2 hits and a run, while striking out 4. Brant Sobczak got the save coming in for the 9th.

The Broncbusters are back in action Thursday at Butler Community College for a double header at 1 p.m.
