GC Elite third in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs, Colo (westernkansasnews.com)-Garden City’s trip west to Colorado over the weekend was more about redemption than anything else. And though they didn’t walk away with a title, plenty of positives came out of their three-day stint to the west.

The Elite went 4-1 and placed third at the 2014 Pikes Peak Baseball Tournament, beating the Denver Hit Streak, Palmer Ridge, Falcon and Heritage while losing to Air Academy 14-0.

“I think we’re in a pretty good place,” Head Coach Lyle Befort said. “We’re gearing up for zone, and everything is starting to come around.”

Despite the one hiccup, Daven Acker had a huge weekend-hitting over .600 for the three days.

“I think our team finally came together,” Acker said. “For the most part, everybody was hitting the ball pretty well.”

In five games, Acker finished 7-for-11 at the plate and knocked in two runs.

Elite improving to 24-9 overall.
