Garden City Softball Opens WAC Play With Huge Wins

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City High School Softball teams rolled to run rule wins in their conference opening doubleheader over Liberal 13-2 in 5 innings  and 15-0 in 3 innings.  Callie Millsap had a two run single in the second inning of game one for Liberal.  That hit along with Emily Castanada’s leadoff single were the only two hits for the Redskins all day.

Dusti Befort improved her record to 3-1 on the mound for Garden City allowing two runs and two hits while striking out eight and walking two.  Jenna Greenlee helped out with a three run homer in the third and second baseman Kennedy Brunson laced a two run single in the sixth.  Catcher Haley Saldana tacked on two RBIs in the 13-2 win.

Game One Highlights

Game two freshman Abbie Dart coasted to an eight strikeout performance and face the minimum of nine batter in a three inning perfect game.  This time Garden City (5-2, 2-0 WAC) used two homers to help propel the offense.  Saldana had a solo blast to lead off the third and give the Buffaloes a 7-0 lead.  Four batters latter Kennedy Brunson clear the bases with an inside the park grand slam.  In the third GC had twelve batters come up to the plate and they scored nine runs to end the game in three innings 15-0.

Game Two Highlights

Garden City is back on the road Friday afternoon when they play Colby.  Next Thursday the Lady Buffs visit Great Bend as they jump back into conference play.
