Garden City Public Schools Makes Changes To Grab-and-Go Program
USD 457
Garden City Public Schools continues to provide free Grab-and-Go breakfasts and lunches at designated school locations from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and at varying times at locations throughout the community.
Beginning on Thursday, April 9, parents will be able to pick up a permit for their children’s meals. The permit will allow a parent to pick up the number of meals on that permit without the children needing to be present in the vehicle. The number given on the permit will be based on the number of children in the vehicle at the time the permit is issued. This means in order for all children in the household to receive a meal they must all be present on the day the permit is issued. The permit will need to be visible to the nutrition services staff, by having it hanging on the rearview mirror, in order to receive the meals. Parents are still encouraged to bring their children with them when getting the meals.
The USD 457 Nutrition Services staff continues to look at the locations of the Grab-and-Go meal program to see what updates need to be made. The department has discontinued the service at Bernadine Sitts Intermediate Center after evaluating the distribution numbers and staffing resources it was decided to end the meal service at the school location.
The meals are delivered curbside at the locations. For your safety and the safety of the workers, please do not exit the vehicle. Following current federal guidelines, children must be present in the vehicle to receive a meal. Children may also walk to the locations to receive the meals. These meals will be free to any child age 18 and younger.
The district would like to remind the community that during this time all school facilities, including playground equipment, are closed to the public. After picking up meals, all children and families are asked to honor social distancing.
The Garden City Public Schools website has all the times and locations of where students can get their Grab-and-Go meals. The district’s website is at www.gckschools.com.
