Garden City man crashes into residence, arrested for DUI

Garden City, Kan (WesternKansasNews.Com) – On May 23, 2022, at 1:30 A.M., Officers of the Garden City Police Department were dispatched to an injury accident in the 900 block of Jenny Avenue, where a vehicle struck a residence.

Upon arrival, Officers observed a Honda CR-V had struck the west side of a residence. Officers located the driver, identified as Alexis Ortiz (23), Garden City, KS, sitting in the vehicle. Ortiz was transported to St. Catherine Hospital for treatment of injuries. The vehicle was removed from inside the residence and towed from the scene. The homeowner was inside the residence at the time of the accident but was not injured.

Through further investigation, it was determined that Ortiz was suspected of driving under the influence. Ortiz was arrested and lodged in the Finney County Jail on the following charges:
• DUI
• Transportation of an Open Container
• Possession of Marijuana
• Tampering with Ignition Interlock

The west side of the residence was assessed for damage and deemed unlivable, with total estimated damage at $30,000.00.
