Garden City looking for big weekend heading into #2 Iowa Western
Garden City, Kan (WesternKansasNews.Com) – No one would have imagined that the start to the football season would be this concerning, but here we are. Two weeks into the regular season and the Garden City Broncbusters have fell out of the national rankings, started 0-2 for the first time since 1993, a year that Garden City went 0-3 before finding its first win.
That 0-3 start is lurking to a reality this week as the Broncbusters will travel 7 hours and 445 miles to take on #2 Ranked Iowa Western, in what could be a major opportunity for the Broncbusters.
“My thoughts are to stay focused and on schedule and act as if Tom is here” said Defensive Coordinator, Chenelle Jones.
Jones will patrol the sideline this week, as Head Coach Tom Minnick will miss the Iowa trip. Minnick was ejected on Saturday in the 4th Quarter due to back-to-back “unsportsmanlike” fouls.
“It’s hard to not say anything when your guy is getting beat up after the play for no reason” said Tom Minnick. “I’m sorry to the fans, and everyone who came out. We had a great morning crowd and it shouldn’t of went that way” he added.
So far this year, starting QB Ty Perry has been a top 5 contender in the nation. After two games, Perry leads the nation on Comp-Att ratio (49-70) for 70% and 483 yards. The Arizona native should have another big game if the front line can hold off “The Dark Side”, Iowa Western’s defense.
This week is simple for the Broncbusters going in; No penalties. Garden City in the last two games, has given up 351 yards due to 33 penalties. Another pocket to pick would be third down conversions. The Broncbusters come into week 3 with a 19% on the conversion (4-21).
