Garden City Independence Day celebrations to include Municipal Band Concert, Fireworks Show
Garden City – Independence Day 2018 will be celebrated Wednesday with a Municipal Band Concert and fireworks show.
While most City facilities will be closed Wednesday, The Big Pool and Lee Richardson Zoo will welcome guests during special hours. The Big Pool will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Admission will be free for all veterans and active duty military personnel.
The West Green of Lee Richardson Zoo will be open late Wednesday so visitors can enjoy the Municipal Band Concert and view the fireworks show. This year, July 4th coincides with Wild Wednesday, which is the first Wednesday of the month when the zoo offers free vehicle admission. The Fourth Street vehicle entrance gate will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. After 8 p.m. the Fifth Street exit gate will open for latecomers to enter free of charge. The Municipal Band concert will start at approximately 8 p.m. on the zoo’s West Green. Visitors can then stay to enjoy the fireworks display, which will begin at dark. No personal fireworks or pets are allowed in the zoo.
Those wishing to view the fireworks display can also do so from the Finney County Exhibition Building parking lot. No personal fireworks will be allowed in the parking lot the evening of July 4th due to the large number of people that are expected to be in the area.
