Garden City High School Students Win KAB Awards

Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Students from the Garden City High School Buffalo Broadcasting System (BBS) – radio and television classes competed in the Kansas Association of Broadcasters (KAB) state awards competition and received a large number of awards. There were 45 awards given to the program with 15 state champions, 17 state runner-up awards, and 13 state Honorable Mention finishes.

The awards will be handed out at the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Student Seminar in Manhattan, Kansas on Tuesday, April 2nd. The KAB will give out 93 awards to the 17 high schools competing. GCHS won more awards than nearly every other high school combined.

The students produced their radio or television entries and submitted them to the association for judging.

The 2018 KAB award winners for GCHS in the television category are:
State Champion: Tyler Stutzman, Public Affairs Program: Staff and Crew of BBS-TV, Complete LIVE Newscast; Staff and Crew of BBS-TV, Sportscast; Tam Nguyen, Research Paper and Kirstin Neff, Promotion Activity.

State Runner-up: Katie Chandler, Public Affairs Program; Hunter Manley, Sports Play by Play; Oscar Fernandez, Documentary; Kirstin Neff, Research Paper; Tyler Stutzman, Promotion Activity.

Honorable Mention: Caden Strawder, Station Promotion Announcement; Katie Chandler, News Anchor; Delaney DeSpain, Documentary.
