Borger, TX (Garden City Community College Athletics) – Following an 0-4 start, the Broncbuster offense has sprung to life.

Daryelin Rivas Chavez and Maria Avendano Fori each belted two home runs, Ashlyn Powell notched her first win of the season in the circle, and Garden City completed a two-game sweep of Frank Phillips with a 21-7 run-rule victory on Monday afternoon.

Julissa Galicia went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs, and Alyssa Santana had two RBI.

Garden City (4-4) turned this one into a laugher early. Chavez homered twice in the first, and Fori demolished a 2-1 breaking ball over the right-field fence for a two-run shot. Zoe Lampe added an RBI triple, and the Broncbusters had an 8-0 lead.

The Broncbusters plated five in the second before Powell ran into trouble in the third. She spotted the Plainsmen six runs including a two-run homer by Savannah Sanchez. But the redshirt freshman rebounded from there, allowing just a single run over the final two frames.

Garden City then added some insurance in the fifth. Santana hit a sacrifice fly, Mia Lentz scored on an error, Jade Hendrix collected a two-run single, and Fori blasted her second homer of the day.

Powell’s final stat line: seven runs on eight hits in four innings.
