Garden City and Dodge City State Track Results

Wichita, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City boys and girls track teams notched fourth place finishes in the 6A State Championships this weekend. The girls scored 39 points with the boys scoring just a shade less at 38. The Dodge City boys finished 11^th with 25 points while the girls finished 22^nd with 10.

Both schools had multiple athletes place including two state champions from Garden City and one from Dodge City.

Garden City’s Demarcus Elliott won the state championship in the shot put throwing 52 feet 6.5 inches. Also winning a state championship for the Buffaloes was Ruben Huerta in the pole vault clearing 15 ft and winning the tiebreaker, Brian Rodriguez was third clearing 14 ft 6 inches.

Also placing for the Lady Buffaloes was Taylor Savolt in multiple events. Savolt placed second in the 300 hurdles, fifth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump. Raegan Linnenberger placed fourth in the high jump clearing 5 ft 6 inches. Also bolstering the girls performance was the 4×400 relay’s third place finish.

For the Red Demons Erick Villa-Valverde won the state championship in the discus with 158-05. Marcelo Cruz placed fourth in the two-mile running it in 9:53. Samuel Unruh placed in two events finishing fourth in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the 110 hurdles.

The Red Demon girls were led by Chia Okoro who placed sixth in the girl’s 400 meter dash. Ezinne Okoro finished in the girls triple jump with a distance of 35-04.75.
