Fowler’s sacrifice fly gives Rockies much needed win

Denver, CO (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a dramatic ending to Monday night’s game in Denver between the Colorado Rockies and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pittsburgh tied the game in their last at bat on a three-run home run by Pedro Alvarez to tie the game at four. Those runs came after a 53 minute rain delay. Colorado would end up with a walk-off sacrifice fly by Dexter Fowler, scoring Wilin Rosario to give the Rockies a 5-4 win in the series opener. Rex Brothers, who blew the save, ended up picking up the win for Colorado. The Rockies scored four runs in the fifth inning. Starter Jeff Francis gave up one run on six hits in five innings of work. Game two of the three game series begins at 7:40 at Coors Field in Denver. It will be Erik Bedard getting the start for the Pirates, while Colorado is scheduled to send Christian Friedrich to the hill.
