For Finney-it’s 22 and counting
Colorado Springs, Co (westernkansasnews)-Up and down can easily describe Finney County’s defense over the last month. That uneven play was on display again Thursday night in Colorado Springs, but the blues overcame five errors to beat the Rampart Rams 8-6.
“We have to become more consistent on defense-simple as that,” Head Coach Lyle Befort said. “We kept them in the game; we can’t continue to do that.”
If you’re keeping score at home: Edgar Montoya committed three errors; Logan Dechant-two.
“I had a big talk with the team after the game about defense,” Befort said. “These guys know exactly what it’s going to take to get through zone and into the state tournament.”
Offensively speaking-Isiah Rodriguez led the way with two doubles and two RBI’s. Jake Curran added an extra-base hit and also drove in a run.
Finney County (22-6) scored a run in the 1st, two in the 3rd, two in the 5th and three in the 6th.
As for the guy on the hill: Rodriguez allowed just four hits and fanned four in a complete-game performance.
“He (Isaiah) gave up some hits tonight, but they were on the ground and gave our guys a chance to make plays behind him,” Befort said. “He pitched a good game.”
