Five back with five to play
Derby, Ks (westernkansasnews)-Sometimes having your backs against the wall can fuel the fire. Dodge City is definitely living proof of that. The A’s overcame an early deficit to steal a 4-3 decision against Derby Wednesday night at Panther Field.
“Two more to go; hopefully we can get these and keep it rolling,” A’s coach Michael Robbins said.
Although they didn’t necessarily have the offensive spark that saw a 10-run outbreak on Tuesday, the A’s did just enough to squeak out their eighth league win of the season.
After taking a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the 2nd-Dodge City starter Hayden Carter nearly came unglued. Dylan Boston led off with a single; Jason McMurray followed with a five-pitch walk. After Carter got Cody Robinson and Kyle Bilbrey to fly out, it seemed like A’s hurler would get out of a mini jam. But Zach Jacob’s miscue in center field later in the inning allowed the go-ahead run to score.
Dodge City (8-16) would fight back in the fifth. Dillon Englehart’s double down the left-field line tied the game before a wild pitch gave the A’s the lead for good.
Derby fell to 11-16 in league play.
