Firearm Safety Courses Available in 2020
[Garden City, KS] Jan. 21, 2020 – Garden City Community College’s Department of Public Safety is once again coordinating several firearm safety courses throughout 2020.
The training schedule includes a basic handgun course, four “NRA Women on Target” courses, and four Kansas concealed carry courses for those who desire to apply for a state license.
“NRA Women on Target” will be held on the following Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Feb. 29, April 18, Sept. 5, and Nov. 7, 2020. These courses are open to females only, and teenagers 16 or older can enroll with a parent. A $70 pre-registration fee is required, and certificates are awarded to those who successfully complete the course.
GCCC Director of Public Safety Brandy Unruh said the women’s class is especially beneficial for those considering purchasing a firearm. That’s because students can experiment with several models and sizes during the class before choosing one that best works for them.
“This class is also nice because there is comfort amongst the women, and they often treat this as a ladies’ day out,” Unruh added.
A basic handgun course will also be held on May 30, 2020, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A $70 pre-registration fee is also required for this course and open to both men and women. Teenagers 16 or older can register with a parent.
Lastly, “Kansas Concealed Carry” will be taught on the following Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.: March 7, Aug. 1, Oct. 3, and Dec. 5, 2020. Enrollees must know how to safely handle a handgun prior to taking this course, and participants are required to provide their own handgun and 60 rounds of ammunition. There is a $100 preregistration fee for this course, which includes lunch.
